ONE LIFE IS TO MANY!!!!!

I'm not rational enough to post something that deserves recognition. It makes me so angry to think one CHILD is lost due to society and it's blindness to this epidemic.
Jamey Rodemeyer was just fourteen, and already the victim of bullying and harassment. But it looked like Jamey was going to survive the taunts and the teases; he even created his own 'It Gets Better' YouTube video, in which he said, in part, “That's all you have to do. Just love yourself and you're set. And I promise you, it'll get better.” Sadly, for Jamey, it didn't get better. Jamey Rodemeyer took his life this past Sunday, his parents discovering his body after returning from a weekend camping trip. Tracy Rodemeyer, Jamey's mother, says he was always taunted and teased and bullied because of his sexuality: "So he hung around with the girls a lot, so then the teasing started happening like 'Oh you're such a girl or you're gay or whatever and that bothered him for many years." Jamey’s father Tim Rodemeyer said, "To the kids who are bullying they have to realize that words are very powerful and what you think is just fun and games isn't to some people, and you are destroying a lot of lives." It isn't just a game. it isn't just kids being kids, because kids being kids doesn't usually end up with one of the kids taking his or her own life. It has to stop. The kids who are being bullied need to stand up and speak up to their parents and teachers about what's being done to them "all in good fun." And parents need to take this seriously; your kids are literally being bullied to death. this is not a joke, or a rite of passage. Bullying = Death. And the schools, all schools everywhere, need to adopt, and enforce, a Zero Tolerance Policy on bullying. You bully a student, you're suspense. Do it again, you're out. This has to stop. How do we let a young man like this take his own life? Why do we let it happen? This reminds me of an incident when the twins were in middle school. There was underlining long term depression and the bullying proved to be the final push. Middle school is my least favorite place on the planet. I would love to see it disappear. (I was in elementary thru 7th and in high school at 8th.)

what angers me is kids and their parents use the old standby- i was just playing.... that kind of passive aggressive behavior is bullying and too many teachers and administrators let it slide by.

after reading this i am proud for getting in trouble for writing someone up for 'just playing', and also happy i spent time (even though my boss said i spent too much time) talking about rules and consequences for disrespecting others.

horseplay is physical assault, and name calling is verbal harassment, yet schools don't see this.

I've learned a lot in the last few years. One thing is my ability to keep moving forward regardless of what's happening around me.  My sister is terminal, a lifer.   She's now 46 and her youngest just turned 10.  6 years ago it was breast cancer and  lymph nodes. HOWDY!!

Is anybody out there???? Everyone has left the blogs for facebook, including me. Well I'm back for at least this post. I'm no longer driving a truck. Bill and I live in Monte Vista, a historic district within the city limits of San Antonio, Texas. Number 9 has moved to the Houston Area along with all her kids in tow. Texas was where we grew up and it appears we left for all the right reasons. Getting back to the neanderthal ways of life are a huge adjustment but trust me, I'm having a much easier time than #9. She has been bombarded by southern Baptist at every turn and it has been a trying time for her to readjust. Back in June I was hurt on the job in Ohio and required a 10 day hospital stay followed by several months of therapy. I'm just now almost back at where I began and hopefully by the middle of the new year, I'll be good as new again. Why the move??several. Oh gawd, What a week already. I did some things around the house but sleeping has become the norm, when I'm not eating. So. On the 26th, it will be one year since #9 shot across the sky in rocking light of fire. It was Friday, just about noon on that day when I whispered in her ear and ask if this was it. She said three words. I love you. Gone like that. On Friday that week she was in Phoenix at the Cancer Center of America. Walking, Talking and doing her thing. Although the news was shitty as hell and they said she would be needing to check in to hospice centers back in Texas, she walked to the airplane, flew back to Texas and walked to her car at the airport. She was a tough old broad as Mom would say. She called me on her journey home to tell me the news and what they had advised her to do. It was a tough talk but we had it.
