Out with the Old...

Well Betsy has entered her 16 month of service, and she's closing in on 200,000 miles. Now, in truck terms this is still considered relatively new and most owners would stick it out.
But several new things are coming in the truck industry dealing with the epa regulations, and restrictions of diesel engines.
Betsy is a 2009 model, and she is within the new 2010 guidelines but there are really good deals on the 2010 models available. Dealers are desperate to move the new fleets, and they are willing to cut prices drastically. Did I mention the new engine is a $10k add-on? But that can be hammered out in the financial negotiations.
Plus seeing that B falls under the new guidelines, she has added trade in value.
Now here is the tricky part, and you might think I've fallen off my rocker but the biggest risk in buying one of these rigs is this:
How reliable is the new engine? When the 2007 epa guidelines required truck engines to be more cleaner the troubles were many, I unfortunately bought a 2007 truck, and it's first home was the dealership. When I sold that truck, we partied like we stole something. Also the fear of getting a truck that was built on a Monday, or Friday. What does that mean? Well there is an old saying about getting something built on a day when everybody doesn't care to be there, and a day when everybody is ready to go home for the weekend which in turn means poor quality, and workmanship. Don't laugh honey, I've heard stories.
Anyho, I've been mauling it over. Betsy has been good to me.

Thaty's a big decision! And it's all about your livelihood! If she's good for another year, maybe you wait until the new engines have proven themselves before you switch over.
What kind of truck is Betsy, anyway? Would you get the same kind or a different kind? And would it be named Betsy Junior? These are things we all want to know!

HOWDY!!

Is anybody out there???? Everyone has left the blogs for facebook, including me. Well I'm back for at least this post. I'm no longer driving a truck. Bill and I live in Monte Vista, a historic district within the city limits of San Antonio, Texas. Number 9 has moved to the Houston Area along with all her kids in tow. Texas was where we grew up and it appears we left for all the right reasons. Getting back to the neanderthal ways of life are a huge adjustment but trust me, I'm having a much easier time than #9. She has been bombarded by southern Baptist at every turn and it has been a trying time for her to readjust. Back in June I was hurt on the job in Ohio and required a 10 day hospital stay followed by several months of therapy. I'm just now almost back at where I began and hopefully by the middle of the new year, I'll be good as new again. Why the move??several. Oh gawd, What a week already. I did some things around the house but sleeping has become the norm, when I'm not eating. So. On the 26th, it will be one year since #9 shot across the sky in rocking light of fire. It was Friday, just about noon on that day when I whispered in her ear and ask if this was it. She said three words. I love you. Gone like that. On Friday that week she was in Phoenix at the Cancer Center of America. Walking, Talking and doing her thing. Although the news was shitty as hell and they said she would be needing to check in to hospice centers back in Texas, she walked to the airplane, flew back to Texas and walked to her car at the airport. She was a tough old broad as Mom would say. She called me on her journey home to tell me the news and what they had advised her to do. It was a tough talk but we had it.
